GPL Week 7: King Faisal go top, Ashantigold stun WAFA

With Accra Hearts of Oak’s encounter against their arch-rivals Asante Kotoko postponed, the other 16 teams locked horns in various encounters across the country.

King Faisal for the first time this season went top of the league standings after a 1-0 victory against Elmina Sharks. Osman Ibrahim’s first half strike was enough for Alhaji Grusah’s men who secured all three points in Kumasi.

AshantiGold SC produced the best result of the week after they handed WAFA their first home defeat of the season at the Red Bull Arena in Sogakope. Seth Osei’s 27th minute strike was enough for the Miners who are now fifth with 11 points.

Medeama SC also recorded an impressive 1-0 away victory against Real Tamale United at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.

Prince Kwabena Owusu’s 71st minute strike was enough for Bibiani Gold Stars as they beat Bechem United to move into seventh position on the league log. Karela United recorded a 3-0 victory against Accra Lions who are yet to secure a point away from home.

Legon Cities who were playing their first match at the El-wak Sports Stadium could only share the spoils against Berekum Chelsea in a scoreless game.

Aduana Stars moved second on the league table following their 1-0 win against Great Olympics. It was the fourth successive win for the Ogyaa Boys who are the second highest scoring team (13) in the league.

The top scorers in the league Dreams FC (14) secured a vital point away at Eleven Wonders who have struggled in the early stages of this season’s league.
