The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, has reminded Metropolitan/Municipal and District Chief Executives that the success of the Local Government Services in delivering on its operational developmental goals depends primarily on the efficiency and effectiveness with which staffs carry out their duties.

Consequently, the Minister said, much is expected of the MMDCEs to put in their best to med their set targets.
Addressing the official?signing?ceremony of performance contract document between MMDCEs and MMDCDs with their respective District Coordinating Directors in Accra Wednesday, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo noted that all the targets listed in the performance contract document were not imposed by an outside body but rather they were mutually agreed upon by the parties involved.
The regional minister, therefore, called for the needed support of each other towards achieving the targeted goals.
Nii Afotey Agbo stressed that the MMDCEs would be assessed by the beneficiaries based on their service, adding, ?And for that matter, our continuous stay in office will, to some extent, depends on how we deliver on our targets set out in the document.
He, therefore, urged the MMDCEs to attach seriousness to achieving targets in the contract, adding, ?it is my wish that, when the national league table is prepared at the end of the year, Greater Accra would lead all the other regions?.
The Minister noted that managing performance is a key human resource management tool to ensure that public servants know what is expected of them; adequate resources are provided; managers know whether the public servant?s performance is delivering the required objectives; capacity gaps are identified and bridged; unsatisfactory performance is identified and managed; and outstanding performance is recognized and rewarded.
The regional minister expressed the hope that the contract document would instill some sense of urgency in the performance and responsibilities of the MMDCEs in their respective areas of operation henceforth.
Nii Afotey Agbo commended the Head of the Local Government Service for spearheading the performance contract initiative and ensuring that concept has become an integral part of the human resource management system in the Service.
Regional Coordinating Directors signed performance contract with their Regional Ministers in January this year.
