The New Patriotic Party on Tuesday set electoral guidelines for the June 13 parliamentary primaries of the party under the supervision of the Electoral Commission (EC).

The poll shall take place from 0700 hours- 1500 hours. A voter who arrives at a polling station after 1500 hours would not be allowed to vote, a statement signed by Mr Kwabena Agyei Agyapong, NPP General Secretary and copied to Ghana News Agency in Accra on Tuesday.
It said the guidelines are based on directives by the party?s National Executive Committee and the National Secretariat in consultation with the Constituency Elections Committee and the EC, which agreed on the guidelines and notice.
On mode for identifying a voter, the party said a presiding officer may, before delivering a ballot paper to a person to vote at the election, require the person to produce; a voter identification card; or an NPP party membership card in order to establish that he or she is the voter whose name, picture and particulars appear in the register.
A voter who desires to vote shall: appear in person at the polling station during polling hours to be identified and to go through the process before voting; could secretly thumbprint on the ballot paper for a candidate of his or her choice; and refrain from showing the thumb printed ballot paper to any person to indicate his or her choice.
The electorates are also to refrain from taking a picture of the ballot paper before casting their votes; should fold up the ballot paper after thumb printing it in secret; and cast his or her vote by putting the folded ballot paper in the ballot box in the presence of the election officers and the polling agents and in full view of the public.
The guidelines also direct the electorates to leave the polling station immediately after casting their votes.
According to the statement, the electoral college for the primaries includes; members of the Constituency Executive Committee; all Electoral Area Coordinators; and five members of the Constituency Council of Elders.
The rest are any Founding Member from the Constituency who is a signatory to the registration document of the party at the EC.
The party also directs that only albums/registers used for the last October 18 presidential primaries should be used for the primaries.
It however noted that the only additions to the October 18 Register should be the five members of the Council of Elders and five Patrons from the Constituency.
The NPP also directs that ?where at the close of nomination, only one candidate filed; ?that candidate must be deemed to have been elected unopposed?.
