The Special Adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on Political Affairs Alhaji Ahmed Gulak on Monday in Abuja called for more collaboration between the legislature and the executive. He said that it would make the duo to collectively deliver the democratic dividends to Nigerians.

?The two arms of government should work together if this country must move forward and that should be without contesting for power,? he said.

The special adviser urged the legislature to judiciously consider the budget proposal by the executive adding that the legislature could do so without “completely re-writing the budget for the executive?.

Gulak said that the purpose of ministers and heads of parastatal agencies going to the National Assembly to defend their budget proposals was to ensure accountability.

On the high cost of governance, he said that the development was not peculiar to Nigeria, adding that America and other countries also practised such system. ?If we must have to operate the presidential system of government, we must be ready to appreciate that maintaining the government structure is expensive. That is why more often than not, the recurrent expenditure is always higher than the capital expenditure.

If we want to reduce the expenditure, it is left for Nigerians to decide where to go,? he said.

Gulak urged Nigerians to exercise patience for them to fully enjoy the benefits of the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan.
