The indefinite postponement is due to lack of sponsorship

?The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), on Friday, announced the indefinite postponement of its Beach Handball Championship earlier scheduled for May in Port Harcourt.?
?Yusuf Dauda, the HFN President, who announced this, said the championship was postponed due to lack of sponsorship.?
?“The championship was shifted because the sponsors failed to respond promptly,” he said. “The proposals for the championships were sent to our anticipated sponsors in the first quarter of the year, but we have yet to receive any response; this prompted us to shift it indefinitely.”?
?He recalled that the competition was last held in the country over 20 years ago and that the federation was trying to revive it.?
?Dauda said that the revival was to engage players in another form of handball outside the usual indoor game.?
?“Beach championship is one of the key programmes the federation is determined to revive; our aim is to bring it back in the country,’’ he said.?
?Dauda, however, gave assurance that the programme would still hold before the end of the year, in order to meet the aspiration of the federation.?
?”The marketing and sponsorship committees of the federation are working aggressively to ensure that the programme holds this year,” he said.?
?Dauda, however, extended the federation’s sponsorship plea to other public-spirited individuals and corporate organisations, to enable HFN organise a hitch-free competition this year.?
?“The development of the sport cannot be left to the National Sports Commission alone,” he said.?
?The president commended state governments that are contributing to the development of handball through sponsorship of competitions and called on others yet to do so, to emulate them.?
