A housewife, Monsurat Yusuf of Alore Area, Ilorin, on Tuesday told an Ilorin Area Court that her husband, Rasaq always beat her whenever he was drunk.
The 30-year-old woman told the court that her husband was fond of coming back home late and battering her unnecessarily.
Monsurat prayed the court to dissolve her three-year-old marriage to Rasaq for his uncontrolled drunken attitude.
“My husband is too addicted to alcoholic drinks that he hardly composes his behaviour when he is drunk,? she said.
She told the court that her husband had caused several injuries on her body through his drunken habit.
The petitioner said that their marriage was contracted in 2010 and had produced one female child, Kafayat.
?My Lord, I want an end to this marriage because I am fed up with his drunken lifestyle,? she said.
The respondent objected to the prayer of his wife, saying he is still interested in the marriage for the sake of his only daughter.
“I beat my wife because she always question me whenever I come back home late in the night,? he said.
Yusuf, however, promised not to beat his wife anymore, and prayed the court for an adjournment for him to make a reconciliatory move.
The presiding Judge, Mr Ibrahim Abdulquadri, adjourned the case to July 17, for a report of settlement or continuation of hearing.
