Barcelona defender Carles Puyol has reiterated his desire to continue playing professional football despite his recent injury problems.
The 35-year-old is currently going through his rehabilitation after having a cyst removed from his knee and says he is looking forward to returning to action.
“However much I’ve suffered, the passion and drive are still there,? he told Mundo Deportivo.
?I had trouble with my other knee for eight months, it was a real ordeal, but now it’s perfect.
?If I have problems next season and something similar happens, I’ll consider it, but right now, I feel like I want to see out my contract and, if I can, extend it”.
The Spaniard says he is also keen to carry on playing for the national team although he is aware that he may have to reduce the number of games he plays per season to prolong his career.
“Right now I’m focused on making sure my knee gets better and then we’ll see what happens next season,? he said. ?Whatever decision I make will always be in Barcelona’s best interest.
?I have a good relationship with (Vicente) Del Bosque, so I won’t make a final decision or say anything on the matter until I’ve spoken to the gaffer.”
