The Cross River States Governor-elect, Senator Liyel Imoke has said his administration would be very focused on developing a service-driven economy.

Imoke, who stated this yesterday in Calabar during an interactive session with journalists in his private residence shortly after he was returned as governor-elect by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said time had come for a total overhaul of the service delivery sector so as to meet the challenges of the industry.
He said: “My administration would be very focused on developing a service-driven economy. We need to focus and pay more attention to hospitality, industries, pay more attention to what we call the knowledge economy that we are trying to development, including the Tinapa, Knowledge City and other projects along this line.”

“We also believe that we can position ourselves to deliver services in the mines industries, meetings, incentives, conferences, entertainment that is why we are developing international conference centre and other facilities.”
“We also believe very strongly that in addition to this, is the entire need for some medical tourism as well as part of the services we are going to deliver,” he emphasized.

“It is very important for us as we move forward that we create that environment that will allow service economy take place and for it to thrive. Now, we are not doing this at the expense of other programmes.”
Besides the service delivery, the governor-elect hinted that they would continue to expand on the rural development initiatives as that was key to develop any economy and key to creating wealth with the fact that we need to have a strong rural economy.

Imoke added: “We will continue to work hard to make sure that we conclude the next phase of our rural development programme, which cuts across various sectors like infrastructure, rural road and rural water supply, education and health care and of course electrification programme.
