Cross River State Governor, Liyel Imoke, has sworn in a 40-member executive council and urged them to to be ready to work for accelerated development of the state within the next three years.

Imoke, who gave the charge while swearing in members of the state executive council yesterday at the governor’s office in Calabar, said the job was not meant for the ‘boys’ as due considerations were given before finally arriving at the final list of nominees. While commending the new appointees, he stressed that the tasks ahead required the commitment and cooperation of all the cabinet members to achieve positive results within the shortest time.

He said: “Today, 15 commissioners and 25 special advisers have been sworn in, this appointment is for those with proven track records and we should expect nothing less from you. You all must, through your works, impact on the lives of every individual in the state.

“As proud Cross Riverians, we do not need to wait to be called to office for the success of the state. We must, in our own way, do our best to impact positively on the lives of those around us. “I am appealing to your spouses for understanding because you will be receiving late night calls and messages. We have three years to achieve programmes of six years. There is no appointment in my administration that is the job for boys,” he stated.

The Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Mike Aniah, who said the oath taking was in line with Sections 194 and 196 (4) of the constitution, noted that the denunciation of cultism had become a prerequisite for holding public offices in the state.

The cabinet members comprising 15 commissioners and 25 special advisers made the denunciation at the governor’s office in Calabar while taking oath as public office holders. Aniah, who said the oath taking was in line with Sections 194 and 196 (4) of the constitution, noted that the denunciation of cultism had become a prerequisite for holding public offices in the state.
