Inductions for 2,639 qualified health persons held

Some 2,639 newly qualified nurses and midwives from Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo have been inducted in a ceremony at Asante-Mampong with a reminder to do more to support efforts at bringing down infant and maternal deaths.wpid-nurses.jpg

Mr Ebenezer Akuoko-Frimpong, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Sekyere Central, said they had significant contribution to make towards the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) four and five ? reduction of child and maternal mortality.

He asked them to uphold professional ethics, work with passion and to show empathy for the sick.

He said they should have the patients at heart and must accept to work in deprived rural communities.

The inductees were from the Agogo Nursing Training College (NTC), Brekum Holy Family, Garden City University College, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Sunyani NTC, Agogo AdventPresbyterian University College and the Kwadaso Seventh-Dayist.

Mr Akuoko-Frimpong expressed the determination of the Government to promote access to quality healthcare delivery through the provision of infrastructure and equipment.

It would again support the health professionals to efficiently perform their duty of saving lives, he added.

Mr Felix Nyante, Registrar of the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana, warned student nurses against any temptation to cheat in their licensing examination, saying, offenders would be appropriately sanctioned.

He said the name of the Council had been changed to the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

Dr Victoria Bann, Head of Department of the KNUST School of Nursing, advised the nurses to constantly upgrade themselves and to seek information to keep abreast of changing trends.
