The Elders Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State has said that the emergence of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) as President in the February General election will revive Nigeria`s lost fortunes and sanitise the country.
Specifically, the APC Elders Forum declared that Buhari is the only answer to the virus of corruption that has festered during the People?s Democratic Party (PDP)-led administration in the country.
The group`s spokesman in a chat with the Daily times in Ado Ekiti, Dr. Bayo Orire, said a Buhari Presidency will point Nigeria to a new direction in a way things should be done adding that Nigeria would need the military experience acquired by Buhari to tackle and defeat the insurgency of Boko Haram and other militant groups threatening the corporate existence of the country.
Apart from this, the APC elders forum also carpets the PDP and its spokespersons for making attempts to denigrate the person of Buhari by accusing him of being semi-literate and having dictatorial tendencies saying the more the ruling party attacks the APC presidential flag bearer, the more popular he becomes.
Orire who expressed regrets that the PDP-led administration has mismanaged the nation’s economy with the ship of the state almost running aground due to bad leadership, declared: “Under a Buhari Presidency, I expect eradication of corruption, graft and stealing, I expect dedication to duty and a paradigm shift in the way Nigerians will start to look at things.
“I expect total uprooting of Boko Haram and I expect discipline in the Armed Forces. It will be a new Nigeria where everybody will be happy, where everybody will enjoy light and water between six months and one year.
“Check his track record, he has more than enough requirements for the Presidency. Don’t mind the rantings and railings of threatened opponents and enemies of the people.
“If you don’t have any skeleton in your cupboard, you can’t be afraid of somebody like Buhari. He will be operating under the laws of the country as a democratically elected president.
“There will be executive, legislature and judiciary and no matter how autocratic a President can be, he can’t stop the other two arms of government from performing.
“Buhari is a sane man who is above 70 years; he will rule within the ambit of the law. As much as we don’t expect the opposition to be quiet, we want them to temper their utterances with cerebral maturity and superior rationality.”
While urging Nigerians to vote massively for Buhari at the presidential election, he warned against any plan to rig and urged Nigerians to equally resist rigging at the poll ?for them to enjoy a new lease of life under a party that has the vision to turn around and bring back the fortunes of the country.?
