
The International Institute of Journalism (IIJ), on Saturday in Abuja matriculated over 1,122 students for the 2011/2012 academic session.??The matriculation was the first since the institute commenced an affiliation programme with the University of Maiduguri in 2004.??
Prof. Mohammed Daura, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Maiduguri, said the matriculation marked another
milestone in the institute’s relationship with the University. ??”The University of Maiduguri is partnering with the institute for the advancement of learning and a continuation of deeply rooted policy of encouraging and bringing university education to Nigerians,” he said.
??”The university of Maiduguri will intensify its partnership with institutions both locally and internationally to share in our vision and mission.??”There is no doubt that IIJ has contributed immensely to the training and professional equipping of journalists and other media practitioners who are now confidently practising and earning decent living within Nigeria and across the world.”??Daura said the institute had met all necessary conditions for affiliation to the University of Maiduguri and would take responsibility for the running of the programmes affiliated to it.
??”We are responsible for issuing certificates, as long as the affiliation arrangement with the University subsists.
“??Olusegun Runsewe, the Chairman of IIJ Governing Council, promised to sponsor two outstanding students to carry out research works.??He said the two outstanding students would be free to select any country of their choice for further research works.??Runsewe, who is also the Director-General Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation,advised the students to be serious with their studies.
