Journey Of The VGMA Unsung Category

0
The announcement of the unsung category in the VGMA this year was indeed a brilliant idea which needs to be recommended. The idea will not only help shape the Ghanaian artiste on stage but also tell the kind of? true competitive music industry ahead and again provides a platform for record labels in the country in terms of who to work with and who not to as far as ?music business? is concern.
wpid-vgma.jpgNow let?s look critically at the image or brand of this category. Of course we all know this is not a music reality show platform where one has to come prove to judges and the public he or she can sing and perform and at the end of the day leaves his fate of surviving in the industry in his own hands. We are talking about a category that adds up to the image of the Ghana music awards festival and that needs to be critically looked at in terms of who we give the nod to rock audience on the event night.
We all believe record labels are only interested in well talented and competent artistes and will not hesitate to sign on the unsung after the event. Corporate bodies, institutions, and companies need good acts or image as icon and all that to help market their products. For that matter we should consider an artist who is being branded well and has good products that is enjoying massive recognition both in the country and international. We should consider the rise of the said artist and also where he or she can push himself to after the platform is offered to him. It should be a well branded artist and someone with that level of potentials because the image of the unsung category will be affected if the artist chosen has no such potentials of making it after the event.
I believe it should be attractive enough to challenge all up and coming artist and even the established ones in our acts. When there is competition in our creativity, we get more investors and we get the industry growing. Music is about numbers and not about some group of performing individuals or musicians. This will help the Ghanaian artist to work hard and also enjoy the kind of international recognition we?ve all been looking forward to.
