The group had motivation from Comic Actor, Kalybos, and Musician Asaase to a 3-0 win over the 2005 squad in their first match, with goals coming from Michael Kofi Oduro, Haruna Mumuni and Justice Neequaye.
They however went into the finals to play the 80’s squad who had won the 90’s with just a goal in the second game.
The finals was moreover not easy for the 2006 squad as Kalybos was bias in commentary position with Asaase because the game was not what many expected. The 80’s really proved too strong for the 2006 squad to penetrate as Sporting Mirren player, Kwaku Boateng was marshalling the midfield.
Kwaku however converted a penalty with 10 minutes left to play after Haruna was brought down by the goalkeeper.
The one day event had only football as outdoor game as time couldn’t allow for the Volleyball competition. There were playing cards, chess, scrabble and many other indoor games which were not played competitively.
Michael Kofi Oduro of Metro Tv Sports who captained the 2006 to victory in the football tells #TalksenseSports, the quality they had back in school came to play.
“I think that obviously we were the youngest amongst the groups that is not to say the others were cheap; if you look at the 80’s group, they had a very solid team. In the final they gave us very good competition. But as the youngest group, and with the quality we possess it was obvious that we will win. It was going to be bad on our part to allow people that finished school, 30 years to beat us. We played very good football and this goes to confirm how our year group like many other beat the likes of Abusco, Opass, and Koforidua Sec Tech.”
Ben Nikoi Dsane, who was the Organizer and doubles as the front runner for the 80’s says, they played intelligently but their opponents used strength to outwit them.
“You see, we are 21 years older than them, I mean they have all advantage than us; the running, the strength but the only thing we have than them is the ball sense and how to anticipate were we should be whiles playing. Because we used our intelligent to play either than our strength. Shear strength caused our defeat, I mean we are quiet older than them, we completed 85 and 2006, about 21 years. So you can just imagine the difference.”
Richard Asante, also Known as Kalybos hopes to see the event better subsequently.
“I’m highly elated to be here today. It’s good for us to relive the moments in school, so today’s fun games has been very fruitful. I’m hopeful it’s going to continue in the subsequent years. I had fun.”
The Tema wing of the Old Students Association believes they’ve had a successful event and plans to build structures in the school with the year groups and the branches strengthened. Ben Nikoi Dsane is their Organizer.
“We’ve gotten a lot of people and this is a holiday event so a lot of people couldn’t come. I still believe the one to build SUTESCO is out there, we have to fish them out. I believe that, when we strengthen the year groups and the branches, so that, National will get all on board to support, should there be any project in mind.”
