Stakeholders say the Commission?s Executive Secretary?s actions border on constructive malice

Lead City University was one of those who's licenses were suspended.

Stakeholders in Lead City University have called for an independent fact-finding visitation to the University to check the veracity of the allegations made by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) Executive Secretary, Professor Julius Okojie, against the institution.

It will be recalled that the NUC had, last week, suspended the operational licences of some universities in Nigeria, including Lead City University, a private higher institution located in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The parents, students and management of the university, during the weekend, appealed to the authorities, including the National Assembly, to prevail upon Okojie and order him to desist from misinforming the government and general public about the state of affairs in Lead City.

According to the management, Okojie’s allegations against the University bordered on “constructive malice”.

“All the courses/programmes of the University were given full accreditation in 2009, which connotes that by the laid down procedure of the NUC, the programmes are not due for another accreditation exercise until 2014; the only exception being Biochemistry which is due in October 2012, as communicated formally by the National Universities Commission,? they said.

The management also alleged that Okojie?s unwarranted actions and pronouncements against Lead City had, in the past few years, been a source of worry to them, and that he had once threatened the Vice-Chancellor, saying, “Though I cannot withdraw your licence, I am going to kill the university by instalment.”

The University’s Pro-Chancellor has also challenged Okojie to a media debate on the issues, explaining that if the NUC Executive Secretary proves that there are any facilities the institution had not put in place, he would do that within two weeks.
