. Ashanti Regional Minister urges MMDCEs as Zoomlion hands over waste trucks to Assemblie.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Agyemang Mensah has called on MMDCE’s in the Ashanti Region to institute effective mechanisms to ensure that trucks and other equipment entrusted to them for the effective execution of their duties are properly and regularly maintained to enable them last longer and serve the people better.
This, he said last Friday at a short presentation ceremony held at the Jackson Park, Kumasi to hand over 19 new waste management truck donated by Zoomlion Ghana to the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies in the region to enhance their waste management operations.
Dr. Agyemang Mensah added in his address that, one of the greatest obstacles to smooth and effective waste management in the country was the lack of sufficient and appropriate equipment to facilitate evacuation of refuse from transitional refuse dumps to final disposal sites thus. He therefore saw the move by Zoomlion as a significant turning point in the effort of the Government to ensure sustainable waste management in the country.
He therefore commended Zoomlion for its innovative approach to managing Ghana’s waste and pledged the governments’ unflinching support in its operations.
On his part, the Ashanti Regional Manager for Zoomlion, Mr. Stephen Gyekye Darko expressed his profound gratitude to the government for the confidence reposed in Zoomlion by seeing it as a worthy partner in the efforts aimed at solving the environmental challenges in the country. He said that, the additional logistical support to the MMDA’s was to help supplement the work of the trucks that are already in existence and enhance the rate of collection, haulage and disposal.
He therefore called on all stakeholders in the sanitation industry to join hands with Zoomlion to find a lasting solution to the nation’s waste and sanitation problems for a better life and accelerated development.
The Chief of the Asem Traditional Area of Kumasi, Nana Ampofo Kyei Barfour II who was the chairman for the occasion also commended Zoomlion for bringing great changes to Ghana’s environmental landscape since it came onto the scene a few years ago. He further pledged to use his traditional office to support the sensitization efforts of the company and ensure that the people within his jurisdiction develop and exhibit high sense of environmental discipline.
