Madagascar’s public servant salaries to increase by 7.5 percent

Madagascar's President Hery Rajaonarimampianina said Friday the country will increase by 7.5 percent the salaries of public servants.

“The salaries of public servants will be increased by 7.5 percent this year, slightly more than the inflation rate, which is around 7.1 percent,” the president said during his speech at the annual New Year greetings of the presidential couple.

“Sixty percent of customs fees and taxes in Madagascar are served to pay salaries of public servants,” he added.
In his speech, the president said he “heard the complaints of people on the increase of living cost.”

The increase of salaries for public servants has become a custom for presidents in Madagascar every annual New Year greetings.

Official statistics show Madagascar has around 150,000 public servants. Enditem
