President John Mahama, will on Saturday, cut the sod at Yendi for the commencement of work on the Eastern Corridor Road, to open the eastern side and link it to the rest of the country, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Northern Regional Minister has announced.
Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru, who announced this at the 58th Independence Day celebration in Tamale on Friday, said the construction of the road would boost trade, ease movement, and ultimately reduce poverty in the region.
School pupils, members of the security agencies amongst other notable institutions, mounted a parade and took a march past to mark the 58th Independence Anniversary, which was on the theme: ?Achieving Transformation through National Unity.?
The Minister said the transformation agenda of government touched on all sectors, including Agriculture, Health, Education, the delivery of potable water and employment, adding, ?It is the determination of government to transform these sectors by providing the basic infrastructure and support to pursue that agenda?.
He said putting people first was the focus, and education was the key, adding, ?Therefore, we must prioritize education as the surest way to dealing with ignorance, poverty, disease, inequality and general under-development.
He said work was progressing steadily on the first five community day Senior High Schools (SHS) in the region, and was expected to be completed by September this year, while additional five community day SHS would be constructed as part of the second phase in the region.
Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru urged all to be proud as Ghanaians and in all that they did, the interest of the country must supersede any other interests, adding, ?We must respect each other and also appreciate one another irrespective of our ethnicity, religion, political affiliation, gender or creed.?
