Ghana star midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng feels Schalke 04’s Bundesliga 0-0 stalemate with Mainz 05 has given the Royals Blues the needed toughness to face Real Madrid in the Uefa Champions League.
Mainz defy all odds to hold Schalke to a pulsating draw at the Veltins Arena on Friday night with both sides failing to creating decent chances.
Schalke are preparing feverishly for their Uefa Champions League against giants Real Madrid who are fervently pursuing La decima and Boateng believes the Mainz draw has steeled them to face the Spanish football lords.
?Mainz were very mobile in the game and had a lot of position changes to win the game. The game has made us what we have to do better to compete against Real,? he told German website derwesten.de.
The former AC Milan talisman also heaped praises on Mainz manager Thomas Tuchel: ?Tuchel also did good work with the midfield and that made them very efficient in the game.?
Schalke host Madrid at teh Veltins Arena on Wednesday with both Boateng and Anthony Annan expected to be in the Ghana team.
