The Overall Lord of the Mamprugu, Nayiri Mahami Bohagu Abdulai Shariga has condemned the recent attacks, stealing and robbery against Fulani citizens in Ghana and appealed to the perpetrators to put a halt to the act.
The prominent King in the North disclosed this when he interacted with the press in his Palace at Nalerigu about the recent incidents in West Mamprusi District which led to the loss of about 1,100 cows, sheep, goats and fowls which cannot be estimated belonging to Fulani citizens and even some Ghanaians.
Nayiri said, the fact that there eres some robbery alleged to have been carried out by some Fulani’s did not amount to attacking Fulani’s in general, killing their cattle and destroying their properties.
The King has condemned the perpetrators in Janga for lack of disrespect to the security by destroying the wind screen of Walewale police jeep and throwing of stones on the DCE of Mamprusi west in an attempt to calm down the situation and rescue the two Fulani’s and the Mamprusi man.
Nayiri Mahami Bohagu Abdulai Shariga is appealing to the security agencies to work hard to retrieve the lost cows to their owners and asked the public to provide accurate information to the police to help them apprehend the perpetrators.
The king has suggested to the government to institute a probe into any allegation against the Fulani citizens which resulted to some people taking the law into their hands, killing cows, human beings and destroying property of a particular tribe.
“The armed robbery is a worry to the state, and the security must back up and fight against them for they are enemies to our welfare. Any armed robber who is caught whether being a Fulani or any other person must be dealt with according to law,” he added.
The King has appealed to the National Leadership of the Fulani Community in Ghana and Cattle Farmers Association to come out with some concrete measures which can ensure the safety of the Fulani community in Ghana and cattle farming.
