Medeama SC, having clinched their first Ghana Premier League title in the 2022/2023 season, made history as the first club from the Western Region to achieve this milestone in over 40 years.

However, their subsequent participation in the CAF Champions League impacted their domestic performance, leading to an eighth-place finish.

The club has retained a substantial portion of their squad from the previous season, fostering team cohesion as the technical staff addresses areas of improvement.

Head coach Nebojsa Kapor, technical director Evans Adotey, and the players remain resolute in pursuing further success.

God knows Dzakpasu highlighted the team’s commitment to enhancing their performance.

“It has been good; we’re really responding to the rhythm of the coach and pushing very hard,” Dzakpasu said.

He noted that while the team performed well in the first round last season, they struggled towards the end, resulting in a decline in form.

“We’re working towards correcting that to have a successful season.”

Joshua Agyemang, Nana Kofi Babil, and Andy Kumi, who are new recruits, will strengthen the offensive lineup for the new season.

All of these strikers with prior GPL experience are expected to form a formidable attacking force alongside Diawisie Taylor, the 2020/2021 GPL top scorer.

Taylor rejoined the Ghanaian top flight after stints with Al Merreik and Future FC in Sudan and joined Medeama midway through the previous season. Despite a challenging start, Taylor is eager to make a significant impact this season.

“My performance last season was affected by my extended time away, but I’m fully prepared for this season,” Taylor said.

“I aim to score and win the Golden Boot as a striker. I am praying for success this season.”

Veteran player Fatawu Sulemana is returning to Medeama for his second stint after spending a year at Al Merreik.

The experienced wing-back, who also spent time in Portugal, is committed to leveraging his enhanced skills to contribute to the team’s success.

“I have learned a lot from my time abroad, and upon my return, I’ve noticed improvements in my performance. I’m here to help push the team forward,” Sulemana said.

With a blend of seasoned players and new talent, Medeama SC is poised to build on its recent achievements.

Despite the challenges of balancing domestic and continental competitions, the club’s strategic additions and retained core suggest they are well-positioned to compete at the highest level.
