The wife of Ondo State governor, Mrs Olukemi Mimiko, says women’s participation in politics would facilitate development and sustenance of democratic values.

Mimiko, who stated this in Ondo town on Wednesday during a meeting with some women groups, expressed gratitude for the support given to her husband, Olusegun, during  the 20th October governorship election in the state.

”I want to appreciate you all for your usual and unflinching support for Gov. Mimiko’s administration. I humbly recognise and appreciate God for your selfless contributions to the renewal of the Labour Party mandate,” she said.

She urged government at all levels to encourage women’s participation in nation building efforts, saying  women had always been involved in transformational initiatives.

According to her, the state government was determined to sustain its  welfare programmes for women in the state to enhance their contributions to the development of the economy.

Mrs Olayinka Alabi, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, said the administration had performed well in  involving  women in  political positions. ”Let me appreciate Her Excellency for being there for the women and the children of this state, particularly with her pet project, Maternal Pulse Foundation, which  she established to assist the needy,?? she said.
