The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Hon. Cecilia Abena Dapaah has expressed worry over activities of encroachers on a major installation of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) at Adoato in Kumasi.

On Friday, June 18, 2022, the Hon. Minister, in response to the threats of possible shut down of the ECG facility, being reported in the media, visited the site to assess the situation.

Speaking to a section of the media, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah said “It is important for us to protect this national resource. An electrical failure will ultimately mean a water supply failure and this could be detrimental to live and property”

“And for heaven sake, we need to think about the larger picture. That if a private developer, single handedly, encroaches on such an installation to deprive half of Kumasi water supply, this is great disservice to the nation and the good people of Kumasi. We cannot afford to let this happen”

The Minister has indicated that she will be immediately engaging the Minister for Energy, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh on providing immediate responses (remedies) to this, potentially, disastrous development.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Director of ECG, Ing. David Asamoah has mentioned that the ECG are currently fencing the area and in consultation with the national security, is making plans to proceed to court to reclaim the property.
