In collaboration with MTN Ghana, the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, we marked National Girls in ICT Day with a significant event honouring a thousand beneficiaries of girls’ ICT training in the Greater Accra Region.

Held at the University of Ghana’s Cedi Conference Centre, the celebration gathered prominent female professionals in the ICT sector to inspire young girls towards careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing the Girls-in-ICT initiative, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 5. She announced the launch of the Ghana Girls in ICT Trust, ensuring sustained support and empowerment for girls and women in ICT and STEM fields.

The Trust seeks to address funding challenges through public-private partnerships, inviting donors and companies to contribute to its mission of expanding ICT training opportunities for young women across Ghana.

Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Greater Accra Regional Minister, reiterated the government’s dedication to equipping young girls with essential ICT skills, preparing them for success in the digital era.

MTN Ghana, a key partner since 2021, has invested GH¢15.6 million in the Girls-in-ICT program, benefiting 9,000 girls and 900 teachers nationwide. The initiative covers regions such as North-East, Western-North, Ahafo, Bono-East, Bono, Savannah, Northern, Eastern, and Greater Accra, offering coding, website design, game development, and animation training.

The event included a five-day ICT training session culminating in awards for top-performing students, reinforcing the program’s impact in fostering digital literacy and empowerment among young girls in Ghana.
