Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi on Monday urged the South African government to contain xenophobic violence against foreigners. xenophobia
Speaking at a university ceremony in Maputo, Nyusi called for immediate presence of South African forces of law and order to protect foreign citizens.
He also appealed to Mozambican citizens not to attempt to take revenge against South African citizens living and working in Mozambique.
“We call for non-retaliation, a noble characteristic of Mozambicans,” Nyusi said.
Three Mozambique nationals have died as victims of violence in South Africa, among a death toll of seven till Monday.
The most recent victim of Mozambique nationality, Emmanuel Sithole, was brutally attacked in Alexandria, Johannesburg, and died hours later on Saturday morning. Enditem
