Mudslide destroys US$2 million mining equipment in Liberia

A mudslide at a mining site in Liberia’s Bong County has destroyed mining equipment estimated to worth 2 million U.S. dollars, local media reported Thursday.

The mining equipment belonged to China Union Mining Company in the region, according to a report by the Liberia Broadcasting System.

The mudslide followed heavy rainfall that also caused flooding in nearby towns and communities, the report said, adding the equipment were parked on the hill where the mudslide occurred.

No death or injury has been reported so far. Enditem
