Multi Media Group Sued For Defamation

Mr Emmanuel Baisie, Gomoa East District Coordinating Director has filed a suit at Agona Swedru High Court against Multi-Media Group limited and wife of late DCE for Gomoa East for defamation.

Two workers of the Multi Media Group of Company are also defendants in the suit.

The plaintiff is claiming against the defendants, the sum of 500,000 Ghana Cedis being damages for defamation.
Other defendants are Mrs Emma Ahunu-Armah late DCE’s wife, Nana Captain Smart, Presenter and Mr Kwadwo Fordjour , producer.

According to the statement of claim, the two workers of the Multi-Media group on the December 21st ,2016 falsely called the plaintiff a thief who had stolen money from the coffers of the Gomoa East Assembly.

The plaintiff says that out of shame he was going to his home town to perform funeral rites of deceased mother a statement the defendants knew at the time to be untrue and calculated to defame the plaintiff.

It stated that it also made the plaintiff a subject matter of hatred, ridicule and contempt in of estimation of right thinking members of society.

The claim against the 4th defendant, wife of late DCE was for stating that the plaintiff was the person responsible for causing the alleged mess associated with organization of the final funeral rites of her deceased spouse.

The Plaintiff’s Mother who is the second plaintiff, Madam Comfort Asabea, based at Gomoa Nyanyano is also claiming against the defendants in the same suit that the defendants alleged falsely that Coordinating Director connived, supervised and stole money from an amount of 152,000 Ghana Cedis budgeted for the funeral of late DCE of Gomoa East Mr Isaac Kingsley Ahunu-Armah.

The statement avers that the District Coordinating Director (DCD) was not a member of funeral Committee formed under the supervision of Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah, then Central Regional Minister and Acting DCE for Gomoa East after the demise to organize the funeral rites.

Plaintiffs are seeking an order from the court to compel the defendants to retract the defamatory statements complained of through same medium. They used to perpetuate the alleged falsehood

The statement said the plaintiffs also are seeking perpetual injunction restraining defendants, their agents, personal representatives from further publishing the defamatory statements being complained of by the plaintiffs.
