Namibian authorities and their Botswana counterparts have devised another strategy to entice more Namibian refugees in Botswana to come back home ahead of the cessation of their refugee status set for December this year. 
Namibian commissioner of refugees Nkrumah Mushelanga told Xinhua correspondent in Windhoek on Saturday that Namibia, Botswana and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) want Namibian refugees to come to Namibia on “come and see” basis to ensure their security is guaranteed.
Thousands of Namibians migrated to Botswana in the wake of a short-lived secessionist uprising misled by renegade exiled Namibian politician Mishake Muyongo and a group of followers from his village at Linyanti in the then Caprivi — who wanted to secede the region from the rest of Namibia.
The August 1999 uprising that saw hundreds of secessionist arrested in ensuing security sweeps that followed saw hundreds of Namibians going into self-imposed exile in Botswana claiming persecution at the hands of the Namibian government. Enditem
