Augustus Goosie Tanoh, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Manifesto Committee on Employment and Job Creation, has vowed that the next NDC government will take decisive action to tackle corruption and its associated activities.

Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues on December 1, 2024, Tanoh stressed the urgent need to address public procurement violations and corruption within the public sector, which he identified as a major hindrance to the country’s progress.

Tanoh reiterated the commitment of NDC presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama, to fighting corruption. “Mahama has said that he is going to be an anti-corruption President, and that is fundamental because no one will invest in a country where corruption is allowed to thrive,” he emphasized.

He outlined the NDC’s plan to empower authorized bodies, such as the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), to thoroughly investigate and prosecute corruption cases from the Akufo-Addo administration. He clarified that these investigations would be based on concrete evidence, not witch-hunting, and would target illicit financial activities, including the movement of funds to international tax havens.

“Tracing illegal movements of money, whether to Swiss banks, the Cayman Islands, South Africa, or France, is possible with the right resources and organizations,” Tanoh explained. “The goal is to ensure justice based on law and evidence, not to engage in witch-hunting.”

Looking ahead, Tanoh expressed confidence that an NDC government under Mahama would make significant strides in boosting Ghana’s agriculture sector during its first term, driving economic growth and development.
