NDUOM FEVER GRIPS C/R

STORY: FROM THE POLITICAL DESK

Two ancient fishing towns, Moree and Biriwa, all in the Central Region, last week tasted a real feel of the latest political sensation in Ghana, the Progressive People’s Party, with a message that resonates like the biblical Peace Perfect Peace (PPP).

And the High Priest of that peace sermon was the party’s flag-bearer, Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom.

He was ably supported in the peace mission by PPP National Chairman, Nii Allottey Brew Hammond; national executive members, Mike Eghan, Mrs Mary Ankomah Boakye Boateng; National Secretary, Kofi Asamoah Siaw; Operations Director, Nana Ofori Owusu; National Treasurer, Felix Ograh, and; others from the Central Regional executive of the PPP.

As if the entire township of the two fishing communities had been converted, many who thronged the campaign ground of the PPP peace message were spotted in groups after the mini-rally discussing the air of peace and decency that the new political party is breezing into the body politic.

Dr Nduom’s message comes in the wake of the mounting tension in the country caused by some reckless statements by top politicians of the so-called two main political parties.

“I have warned our supporters and followers to engage in politics of ideas devoid of the usual noise making and insults being engaged in by members of the NDC and the NPP. Anybody who violates that directive would be handed over to the appropriate authorities,” Dr Nduom warned both at the mini-durbars organised in his honour at Biriwa and Moree amid thunderous cheers from the teeming supporters.

At the durbar ground, Dr Nduom made a quick dash to a biometric registration centre close to the gathering to assess how the third phase of the exercise was going on in the area and indeed found out that the exercise had been very peaceful in the area and advised them to continue with the good works that they were doing.

He was not oblivious of the theme of the nationwide tour of the PPP and reminded the teeming supporters and other sympathizers of the party that under a PPP administration, education from Kindergarten would not only be free, but also continuous and compulsory.

Dr Nduom challenged the people of the two ancient towns to be wary of their surroundings to avoid outbreak of diseases that are preventable, but ironically remain the killers in Ghana and entire African continent.

He therefore assured the chiefs and people of the two towns that his administration will ensure that environmental cleanliness remains a top most priority, just as a burning desire to ensure jobs are created for the majority of the youth and also an incorruptible administration.

But that was not the highpoints of the day. Indeed many onlookers were marveled at the massive support and show of solidarity to the PPP by people of the two fishing communities.

At Moree, Dr Nduom and his team were virtually mobbed by people with many demographics way ahead of their entrance to the Moree township.

That reduced the movement of Dr Nduom’s convoy to a snail pace. The enthusiastic gathering could not be bothered about the fact that night was falling that fast. It was a way of showing their commitment and love to a party that many of them easily believe has the panacea to the myriad problems confronting them.

The PPP convoy had no option than to oblige them their wish. The crowd grew in bounds as the entourage got close to the town and before it got to the venue of the gathering, the over thirteen vehicles that travelled with Dr Nduom and others to Moree had been submerged by human heads and other PPP paraphernalia.

Similar scenario was enacted during PPP’s earlier visit to Biriwa in the Mfantsiman West Constituency of the Central Region and lies west-end off the Anomabo section of the Accra-Cape Coast road. The signs were clear right from Mankessim that the outdoor of the PPP in the Central Region was likely to receive an unprecedented boost, perhaps the one that will surpass any new political party in the country’s politics.

That deduction was clearly established during Dr Nduom’s visit to Esuahyia in the Mfanstsiman East Constituency of the Central Region. People from the farming community met Dr Nduom on the Accra-Cape Coast highway and accompanied him to the inland town, amid drumming and dancing.

Some traders who had travelled to the main road to do business, momentarily stopped selling to catch a glimpse of the Edwumawura, the man many of them believe with his extra-ordinary knack for job creation will build many jobs for them when they vote him into power.

Some of them accompanied the PPP entourage from the High-way to the Esuahyia town where a huge durbar was organized at the Esuahyia Traditional Council in honour of Dr Papa Kwesi Nduom. In attendance were the chairman of the Ekumfi Traditional Council, Nana Impriam, his Tufuhene, the Sanaahene, the Ankobeahene, the Akwaamuhene and many others who head traditional states that make up the Ekumfi State.

Ecstatic unemployed youth, were first to spot the Nduom entourage from a distance and quickly convey the message to other townfolks at Kormantse, Abanadze, Egya No. I, 2 & 3 and Anomabo. Most of the residents and indigenes of these towns showed gestures that suggested that they would have wished the Edwumawura and his team had stopped in their towns to share a moment or two with them before he went to Biriwa.

As they realised that the was not possible many of them jumped into the pick-up vehicles in the entourage to Biriwa to hear the PPP flag-bearer speak and share with them in their plight and problems. The Biriwa durbar in honour of the PPP and Dr Nduom was attended by Nana Kwaw Bonko, the chief of Biriwa.
