Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) collected GH¢1.6 million from defaulting customers in Sunyani during the first day of a two-week revenue mobilization campaign.

The initiative targets over GH¢20 million of the area’s GH¢318 million total debt, spanning government agencies, NGOs, and postpaid users.

Sunyani Area Manager Eugene Odoi Addo confirmed structured payment plans facilitated the initial recovery. He emphasized the campaign’s dual purpose: retrieving arrears and fostering a “culture of timely payment” to ensure operational sustainability. “These funds meet obligations to power suppliers and maintain service quality,” Addo stated, noting persistent customer reluctance necessitating periodic interventions.

The utility is accelerating prepaid meter installations in regional capitals to enhance billing transparency. Customers were urged to clear debts promptly to avoid disconnections, with NEDCo offering flexible repayment options. The drive covers multiple districts in the Bono Region under President John Mahama’s energy sector reforms.
