A grandson of South Africa’s late President Nelson Mandela appeared in the Johannesburg Magaistrate’s Court on Friday to face rape charges.
The 24-year-old man, whose name will be kept withheld until he has pleaded, was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl at a pub in Greenside, Johannesburg last Friday.
Through his lawyer Nico Swart, the accused said that he wanted to proceed with his bail application.
He has to remain in custody until his bail application is heard, police said.
Several family members were in court including Mandela’s daughter Makaziwe Mandela. Enditem
