The National Identification Authority (NIA) Division of the Public Services Workers Union, Trades Union Congress (TUC) Ghana, has submitted a petition to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, urging the removal of Prof. Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah from his position as Executive Secretary of the NIA.
In a letter dated July 1 and signed by [920 out of a total of 1000] staff members, the division cited reasons including alleged unfair labour practices, violations of SSNIT laws, poor corporate governance, and administrative injustices in recruitment, placement, and promotions at the authority.
The staff and union’s decision to petition your high office for the removal of Professor Kenneth Agyemang Attafuah is grounded on unfair labour practices contrary to the labour laws and Human Resource Manual and Policy Framework for Ghana Public Services, violations of SSNIT law, poor corporate governance structure, selective and administrative injustice in the recruitment, placement and promotion of staff, and a lack of innovative ideas to manage the administration of the authority.
The division expressed grave concerns that Prof. Attafuah’s continuation in office could further harm the authority’s reputation and erode staff trust, significantly impacting the morale and productivity of the entire workforce.
“We believe his removal from the office would restore confidence among the working staff and reignite the reputation of the authority,” the petition concluded.
The petition reflects widespread dissatisfaction among NIA staff, signalling significant internal unrest over management practices under Prof. Attafuah’s leadership.
