The Nigeria Paralympics Committee has insisted the country’s para-athletes will enjoy ideal preparation for this year’s Commonwealth Games, which will be staged in Scotland between 23 July and 3 August.
NPC president Monday Emogahwve told NAN that all Nigerian participants in the Glasgow showpiece will soon be invited to a training camp, although a date has yet to be confirmed.
“We are working hard to ensure that athletes get the needed support to perform well at the Commonwealth Games,” said Emogahwve.
“We started planning for the Games last year. Some of our athletes competed at international tournaments, most especially powerlifters. The competitions they attended are part of the build-up to the Games.”
Para-athletes Yakubu Adesokan and Ruth Dodo represented Nigeria at the 2013 Asian Championships in Malaysia, where Adesokan set a new world record by lifting 13 kilograms more than former record-holder Egyptian Taha Abdelmagid’s 165.
