Nigerian military authorities on Monday said the country remains committed to providing troops and resources to different missions across the world, and maintaining its rightful place in global peace support operations.

“The armed forces of Nigeria is willing and ever ready to continue to contribute its quotas to peace support operations in the sub-region, in the continent and even globally, as part of our contribution to entrenching global peace and security,” Nigerian defense chief Gabriel Olonisakin said at the defense headquarters in Abuja.

Olonisakin said it has become noticeable that in the recent past, the country’s contribution to global peace support operations had dwindled drastically for some reason.

“As it were, there was a time that Nigeria was one of the largest contributors to peacekeeping operations around the world,” he said, adding that efforts are ongoing to scale up the country’s contribution to peace support operations as well as collaborate effectively with development partners across the world.
