The four-seater aircraft that allegedly got missing on Monday night after taking off from Kano airport en-route Libreville, Gabon, did not disappear in Nigeria?s airspace, an official of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has said.

According to the official, the light aircraft had been handed over to the Cameroonian authorities before the incident occurred.

The official, who pleaded not to be named due to the sensitive nature of the matter, told our correspondent that ?the incident happened in Cameroonian airspace and it is not something that has to do with us here in Nigeria.?

The News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday reported that the four-seater plane flying from Nigeria to Gabon via Cameroon disappeared, attributing the information to Cameroon aviation sources.

The plane, owned by the US company Global Aviation, took off from Kano in northern Nigeria at 1800 hours on Monday en route Libreville in Gabon, where it was scheduled to arrive at 2300 hours, after a stopover in Douala, Cameroon.

However, the station said that the plane, with only the American pilot on board, did not make it to Douala.

lIt said the last contact the plane had with the control tower took place in Mongo, which is two hours flight from the Cameroonian economic capital.

Report says that search and rescue operations led by Cameroon?s civil aviation authorities have not yielded any positive results.
