Nigerian authorities have signed an agreement with the medical doctors for government intervention to avert a strike planned for Thursday.

The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) had earlier threatened to commence a nationwide strike on April 1, accusing the federal government of reneging on agreements reached with the union.

Minister of Labor and Employment Chris Ngige told reporters at the end of a meeting with NARD in Abuja on Thursday that the talks were fruitful and that all the things written in the agreement would be implemented.

The doctor’s grievances include the non-payment of salaries and hazard allowances to some doctors, and the abolishment of the bench fees for doctors undergoing training in other hospitals.

“We would not have the issue anymore over this payment or whether some doctors have not been paid,” said Ngige. Enditem
