NPP cries for justice? As it demonstrates in Kumasi

General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Kwadwo OwusuAfriyie, also known as ?Sir John,? has assured the party?s faithful(s) that the NPP would seek justice in the law courts.

He accused the Chairman of the Electoral Commission (EC,) Dr. Kwadwo Afari-Gyan,of condoning with the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC)to rig the elections in favour of the President, John Dramani Mahama, hence their strong resolve to challenge the results at the Supreme Court.

The NPP general secretary noted that information received from about 23000 to 24000 polling stations across the country pointed to the party?s victory if legal redress is sought.

Sir John gave the assurance when he addressed thousands of party supporters at the Abbey?s Park in Kumasi after embarking on a peaceful demonstration in the Central Business District (CBD) of the Ashanti regional capital.

Traffic and businesses came to a halt for several hours in the CBD as thousands of NPP supporters thronged the streets to show their displeasure at what they described as the ?lack of Justice? in the December 7 General Elections.

The NPP supporters who were led by their national and regional executives chanted party slogans and anti-Mahama slogans with their main song being ?John Mahama oyeawi,? to wit John Mahama is a thief.

Sir John noted that their challenge of the results at the Supreme Court was going to be on three main areas.

?The EC told us that no verification, no vote but they made some people in some parts of the Northern, Volta and Greater Accra Regions vote without verification. They also said the ballots at any place where total votes cast exceed the total number of eligible voters would be rejected.?

The third reason, according to him, was that there were several areas where huge numbers were added to the ballots cast for President John Mahama citing a polling station in Manhyiaconstituency as an example, saying even though the president had 96 votes, it was recorded that he had 996.

National Chairman of the party, Jake Otanka Obetsebi-Lamptey, thanked people of the Ashanti Region for their massive support, strength and commitment before, during and after the general elections urging them not to rest on their oars since the party?s leadership had seen their input.

?Nana Addo did not come here because he is working with our legal team. This is to show you that we are not giving up on our fight for justice,? the national chairman affirmed.

Earlier, a deputy Director of Communications, Sammy Awuku, wondered why the whole nation was in mourning even though a political party had won the General Elections.

This, according to him, meant the verdict of the people had been stolen.
