The New Patriotic Party (NPP) elected new regional executives across 15 regions on Saturday, with newly installed chairmen in the Northern, Ashanti and Upper East regions urging unity ahead of 2028.

In the Northern Region, Mohammed Baantima Adam Samba won re-election as chairman, polling 215 of 386 votes cast at the party’s delegates’ conference in Tamale to beat Inusah Amadu, who took 122. Fuseini Musah secured 44 votes and Salifu Rahman Mumin polled five. Samba, who first won the Northern chairmanship in 2018, told journalists “nobody is a winner, and nobody is a loser, but NPP is the winner,” and pressed the newly elected team to reclaim seats the party lost in the region in 2024.

In the Ashanti Region, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, popularly known as COKA, secured 663 votes to defeat Henry Kwabena Kokofu’s 269 in a contest that drew 1,022 delegates. The win hands Appiah the chairmanship left vacant by Bernard Antwi Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, who is currently incarcerated. Appiah told supporters the campaign for 2028 begins immediately.

In the Upper East Region, Elvis Awonekai Figo Atiah, the outgoing regional secretary, won the chairmanship and predicted a tough fight for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the region, citing his grassroots organising experience.

The results are part of a nationwide exercise covering 15 regions on Saturday, with the Western North Region voting Sunday, as the NPP reorganises after its 2024 defeat. The process is expected to culminate in national executive elections on October 3.
