…In Premiere League
The 2013 /2014 First Capital plus Bank Premier Soccer League with Asante Kotoko, in pole position, has been competitive and exciting due to improvements in the performance of most of the 16 teams involved.
Not many people including Asante Kotoko, are certain about their fate. However now that the traditional and famous Wonder club Accra Great Olympics has made a dramatic comeback in the coming soccer season after six year hibernation, it is believed that the league would be electrified.
Indeed on leaning about the return of Great Olympics to the league after beating Tema Youth football club there is a feeling of excitement in the air in Accra and all over Ghana and abroad.
Yes all supporters and well wishers including some supporters of Accra Hearts of Oak are all happy with the turn of events. Apart from increasing the competitiveness in the league, Accra Great Olympics is likely to bring increase in interest in soccer loving people to the extent of attracting more football loving people to troop in their numbers to watch their matches in Accra and other venues.
Indeed Accra Hearts of Oak would be better off having their known soccer rivals in Accra. In a recent radio discussion program on ?Joy Fm? hosted by Nathaniel Attoh many people who called into the radio welcomed the return of Accra Great Olympics to the elite soccer league in Ghana introducing more nicknames to the accolades of the team.
They moved away from calling the team ?oly dade?, ?oly gbogbo? .oly Rosalinda? to ?oly pink sheet?, ?oly tweaar? ?oly co-equal? and many more.
Some of the callers from abroad wanted to know how they can provide financial assistance to Accra Great Olympics for them to be able to perform in the league next season. Like a new born babies or prodigal sons Olympics would be received very well by their supporters and sympathizers and the football loving citizens.
However the stakes for the team would be very high. The team should not allow the goodies emanating from the honeymoon to go into their heads. Each of the teams in the existing league is not a pushover. Accra Hearts of Oak which did not perform so well in the league would like to improve their performance and to test their football artistry on Accra Great Olympics in their derbies.
For the team to succeed in the soccer season Great Olympics must do the following:
? Reorganize their technical team by admitting a crack coach to handle the team to work with the existing technical team
? The team must be rebranded with the production of new Jerseys with the numerous nicknames of Olympics embossed on them
? It should not be difficult for Accra great Olympics to lay hands on sponsors among the country?s corporate world.
? With this and donations and subscriptions from members of the team Great Olympics would be in a position to raise enough money to support its activities that are no doubt expensive
To begin it all there is the need for the team to organize regional and district floats and forum with members and sympathizers to whip up interest in the team before the inception of the next season
