While on a site visit recently to the chalk-making workshop, Augustin told Xinhua he started the business 10 years ago. The method of making chalks is very simple, the materials are limestone, water and mould. Augustin mixes the limestone and water together for 10-15 minutes and spread the mixture in a mould to wait for 15 minutes, then take the chalks from the mould, put them in the sun to dry.

Augustin said in dry season, the chalks will dry in 5 days, but in rainy season, the time for drying will be longer.

Augustin’s business for the current semester is very good, he produced 1,800,000 pieces of chalks, but the supply is still less than the demand. The chalks made in Augustin’s workshop are sold directly to the schools in Yaounde.

One teacher in a school in Yaounde told Xinhua they are using chalks supplied by Augustin for 4 years. “The chalks’ quality is very good, when you use it, it does not crumble,” he said.

Augustin’s target is to increase chalks’ production in his workshop and supply chalks for schools in 10 regions of Cameroon. He wants to train more young Cameroonian to work for it. Enditem
