An amount of 47,700 Ghana cedis has been disbursed for sixty three People with Disabilities (PWD’s) in the Tarkwa Nsueam constituency.

For the first quarter of this year, a total of 113 PWD’s applied for assistance, but due to limited funds, the rest would be considered when the Assembly access the second quarter of the fund established by government to minimise poverty among PWD.

Mr Samuel Kofi Sackey, Social Services Chairman who made this known in Tarkwa, indicated that even though government had set aside two per cent of the District Assemblies Common to support people with disabilities, it was not enough and asked that NGOs to contribute towards the upkeep of PWDs in the district.

He explained that with the exception of two of the beneficiaries (Mr. Wisdom Anima and Mr Moro Adams), who were given 2,500 Ghana cedis each to enable them fix artificial limbs, the rest received 700 Ghana cedis.

He appealed to the beneficiaries to use the funds for the approved purpose to improve on their current state as it might take a longer period for them to access the funds again.

Mr Dickson Akron, Desk officer in charge of the investment fund informed the beneficiaries that his office would be monitoring how each beneficiary would utilise their share of the fund.

He in this regard asked PWDs to ensure that they strictly adhered to the rules and regulations governing the fund.
