The Member of Parliament for Akyem Swedru constituency has backed claims by former Rector of the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), Professor Stephen Adei that some politicians are liars.

According to Kennedy Osei Nyarko ?80 percent of politicians in the country are liars and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) is the major culprit?.

The former Rector of GIMPA at a marriage seminar organized in Tema bemoaned what he says is the lack of candour in Ghana?s body politic.

He said President John Mahama, Ministers of State, public officials and the media all lie to Ghanaians.

This has generated some heated debate in the country with government expressing grave displeasure about Prof. Adei comments.

Deputy Information Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu who described the comment as unfortunate said President Mahama has always been candid with Ghanaians.

But on Asempa FM?s Ekosii sen programme Wednesday, Kennedy Osei Nyarko said Prof Adei hit the nail right on the head.

He stated that the NDC in its bid to satisfy its insatiable quest?for power told sugarcoated lies to the electorates.

Citing among other things the NDC?s campaign promise to introduce one-time premium payment for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to buttress his point, the Akyem Swedru MP said the only campaign strategy of the governing party is propaganda.

Kennedy Osei Nyarko blamed the current socio-economic challenges on government?s failure to be candid with Ghanaians.

He noted that if the Mahama-led administration had been candid with Ghanaians on the true state of the economy, ?the people will have sympathy for you?.

?You [government] shouldn?t tell lies because you want to retain power. It is time we tell the truth? Osei Nyarko exclaimed.

The Akyem Swedru MP underscored the need for government to quit the ‘cheap populism’ and focus on governance.

Kennedy Osei Nyarko also advised the electorates to reject any politician who peddle falsehood just to win power.

?No Ghanaian should fall prey to any politician who uses lies for power; show him or her the exit? he stressed.
