The Ghana Police Service’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has executed a significant narcotics destruction operation following a court order from the Accra Circuit Court.

The destruction occurred behind the Black Star Square in Accra and was overseen by representatives from the Narcotics Control Commission and the Judicial Service.

The operation involved the incineration of a significant quantity of narcotic substances, including 248 fertilizer sacks, 315 wraps, 24 sachets, and 68 compressed slabs of various drugs.

Additionally, three medium-sized buckets of heroin were destroyed. These substances had been seized and used as evidence in legal proceedings from 2020 to 2024.

Prosper Kingsley Damakah, Registrar at the Accra Circuit Court, confirmed that the narcotics were related to cases in which judgments had already been delivered.

“Some of the cases began in 2020, with the individuals arrested by the police, charged, and brought to court.

Judgments have since been delivered in these cases,” Mr. Damakah stated.

The destruction of these narcotics underscores the commitment of Ghanaian authorities to combating drug trafficking and substance abuse, ensuring that seized drugs are appropriately disposed of once they have fulfilled their role in the judicial process.
