Awal being put in a police vehicle. INSET: The bullet-riddled car at the crime scene
A clash between two factions over a disputed land located at Ashieyie turned bloody last Saturday when one person was shot dead while three others were severely wounded.
The clash was between a group of land guards and workers of Irroko Company Limited, an estate developing company, located at Ashieyie, Adenta.
The 32-year-old worker of Irroko identified only as Awal died on the spot after he was shot severally in the stomach.
Kwame Kyeretwie Ofori, managing director of the company and Kojo Abankwa, a driver, received gunshot wounds, but Jonathan Ablade, another victim, was beaten in a separate attack by the suspected land guards.
The said acres of land, according to information gathered, were being disputed between four groups, including overlords of Ashieyie, Amanfrom, Katamanso and Irroko Estate Developing Company.
But further information gathered indicated that the estate developing company had a land title certificate covering the land and had been occupying it for the past years.
The injured, according to the Adenta Police, were in critical condition receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital and Legon Hospital.
Confirming the story to DAILY GUIDE, DSP Stephen K. Ahiatafu, the Adenta District Police Commander, said the incident occurred around 3:00pm on Saturday April 26, 2014, at Ashieyie.
Police received information around 4:00pm that one Francis Alalemo of Amanfrom and his land guards had attacked and shot workers of Irroko Company, including the owner onboard a Land Rover vehicle, at Ashieyie.
Police proceeded to the scene and saw the Land Rover with registration number GE 749W, riddled with bullets.
The rear, front and side glasses of the vehicle had been smashed while the driver side tyre had deflated due to the gunshots.
When the vehicle was searched, there were blood stains on the driver?s seat.
About 300 meters away from the vehicle, laid the deceased, Awal, whose bullet-riddled body was later conveyed to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police proceeded to the 37 Military Hospital where the two victims had been sent for medical attention by eyewitnesses, but victims could not talk to the police since their conditions were critical.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was being driven by Kojo Abankwa when the suspected land guards attacked.
No arrest had been made, according to the Adenta Commander.
Earlier, one Jonathan Ablade was brutally assaulted on the same land by the suspected land guards on Friday April 25, 2014 around 2:00pm.
The victim currently on admission at the Legon Hospital, received wounds all over his body.
Police have since mounted a search for the suspected land guards.
