Giving a humorous touch to the free SHS policy: An elderly woman spots a public school uniform in solidarity
THE GHANA National Union of Polytechnic Students (GNUPS) has embraced the free Senior High School (SHS) wind blowing across the country.
In a press statement on the subject signed by its Public Relations Officer, Andrew Atariwini and President, Williams Apam Awiniman, the GNUPS said it was a sure way of providing the country with the requisite knowledge and skills to exploit its abundant natural resources.
The union noted that education was more valuable than resources such as gold, oil and gas and therefore the need to make it available cannot be overemphasized.
The significance of secondary education cannot be overemphasized GNUPS stressed saying it was at this point that students decided what they wanted to become in the future.
It was therefore imperative as a nation that the authorities invest immensely in supporting students to reach that level on the education ladder.
?The Ghana National Union of Polytechnic Students states unequivocally that as a country we should see to the implementation of accessible, quality and free senior high school education as a necessity.?
This, the union maintained should be adopted as a national policy regardless of which party is in power. The availability of resources, GNUPS stated should not be a barrier to the implementation of the policy as Ghana had all that it takes to implement it.
?We reason with the idea of free senior high school education as it is a right of every school going child. Ghanaians want to be educated and cannot wait any longer.?
Continuing the students stated ?we share the saying that ?knowledge and skills have become the global currency of 21st-century economies, but there is no central bank that prints this currency. Everyone has to decide on their own how much they will print. We must focus on developing the human resource of our country through education since time and tides wait for no man.?
