
Aimed at boosting power supply to Asaba and its environs if completed soon, the National Integrated Power Project, NIPP, has commenced the installation of a 330/132/33KV substation with 1X150MVA and 2X60 MVA power transformers to be connected to the existing 330kv Benin-Onitsha transmission line in Delta State.
The state Commissioner for Energy, Hon. Charles Emetulu, who disclosed this to newsmen Monday, in Asaba, said that the state presently required about 1008 megawatts of electricity, adding that only about 100mw representing 1- percent of the requirement is available from PHCN to the state.
Hon. Emetulu noted that the state was served from five different 132/33KV transmission substations, saying that two of the substations are located at Sapele and Ughelli in Delta State, while the remaining three are located outside the state.
?Altogether, there are five power plants in the state that deliver power into the national grid. They are two at Sapele, two at Delta IV Power Station, Ekakpamre and one at Opkai, which is the only one operating at full capacity,? he explained.
Emetulu stated that the Uduaghan-led administration had implemented a total of 391 power supply projects through his ministry from its inception in May 2007 to date, at a total cost of N48, 415,002,663.31, stressing that out of this, the ministry had a portfolio of 95 projects valued at N29, 707, 519, 570.92 for the period May 2011 to date.
