Zesco Limited has been using diesel generators to supply electricity to the province for the last 40 years.
“Diesel generators have been used to supply electricity to Mwinilunga for the past 40 years. The connection of Mwinilunga to the grid will stimulate economic growth in sectors such as agriculture, mining, and manufacturing,” the power utility said in a statement.
The connection, it said, will allow the power utility to channel the saved resources to other activities as it has been spending huge sums of money in operations and maintenance of the diesel stations.
The power utility embarked on a project to connect the northwestern province to the national grid in 2014. The project is being implemented at a cost of 163 million U.S. dollars financed through a loan from the Swedish Export Credit Corporation and Standard Bank of South Africa. Enditem
