The Ashanti Regional Queen Mothers Association has paid a courtesy call on Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady, to thank her for the various developmental projects she is undertaking to better the lot of Ghanaians.

They particularly, commended Mrs Akuffo Addo for helping to construct a new mother and baby unit at Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital, expressing their confidence that the facility would help save and alleviate the suffering of countless mothers and children who attend the facility for treatment.

Nana Agyakoma Difie, Paramount Queenmother of Mampong, who led the team to call on the First Lady in Accra used the occasion to seek
Mrs Akufo-Addo’s support in addressing some of the challenges women and children faced in the Ashanti region.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Nana Difie, who doubles as the President of the Association, noted that the First Lady’s initiatives across the country were monumental and benefiting many people.

She said as queenmothers, they would remember the First Lady for her good works in many years to come.

Nana Difie noted that the primary responsibility of queen mothers was to seek the welfare of their people, especially women and children, and so they were concerned about the many preventable diseases like Malaria affecting the people.

She said malaria had become a major health concern for especially those in the Ashanti Region, and therefore urged the First Lady to solidly support efforts at fighting the disease.

The First Lady, on her part, also commended the queen mothers for their support towards the development of the country and urged them to continue to help to improve the lives of the people.

She indicated that as a mother and an advocate, she knew the dangers posed by Malaria to women, children and the country as a whole and would therefore, continue to liaise with the appropriate institutions to meet the target of malaria prevention in the country.

She noted that government was also working relentlessly to improve the living conditions of all Ghanaians.

“The government will continue to do so until all citizens enjoy the benefits of Akufo-Addo’s good governance”, she noted.

The First Lady, further thanked the queens for their support for government’s efforts at addressing challenges facing their region and all other parts of the country and asked them to keep the President and his appointees in their prayers so they could deliver on all their promises.

Among the personalities who received the queen mothers at the First Lady’s office were Mr S.K. Boafo, Former Minister of Chieftaincy, Mr Paul Essien, Deputy Minister of Chieftaincy and Mr Stephen Amoah, CEO of MASLOC.
