The school whose roof was ripped off. INSET: Some of the students and a teacher sorting through the wet books

A heavy rainstorm that hit the Ashaiman Municipality last Monday destroyed the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) N0 2 & 4 cluster of schools at Zenu near Ashaiman.

The strong winds that accompanied the rain, which lasted for almost two hours, ripped of the roofing sheets of the school building and head teacher’s office, thereby exposing textbooks, exercise books, computers and accessories as well as other vital documents to the rain.

When DAILY GUIDE visited the school, the form two and three classrooms, as well as the Head Teacher’s office had their roofing sheets ripped off, but no human casualty was recorded.

Some of the teachers and students were seen drying their wet books and damaged property in the open, while some academic activities took place outside the classroom.

The school, which has been in existence for several years, is yet to boast of a staff common room, and as a result teachers have to do certain activities, such as marking of exercises, on the corridor.

Martin Okyere-Ntow, Head Teacher, called for the immediate rehabilitation of the damaged buildings and property, which could hamper teaching and learning activities in the school.

Mr. Okyere-Ntow appealed to the assembly and Parent/ Teacher Association to assist the Municipal Education Directorate to rehabilitate the school blocks.

According to him, the rehabilitation must be done to enable the pupils return to their respective classrooms.

The school authorities say the school, which is not fenced, faced challenges of encroachment by some individuals.

High tension electricity poles were also destroyed, leaving electricity cables exposed.
